Restorative Yoga is a hugely popular style of gentle yoga that it is suitable for everyone, including those who are seeking a relaxing healing and bliss out session, those who are new to yoga and would like to be gently introduced to postures and breath, and thoserecovering from illness or injury.

The Restorative Yoga class includes postures that gently increase our body, mind and spiritual health, through a range of loosening, limbering, strengthening, and quietening postures based on the classical yoga asanas. Many postures are deeply supported with props, allowing you to hold the poses for longer – it’s a relaxing style of practice that leaves you feeling open and refreshed. Each class includes some mindful breath work and a Yoga Nidra relaxation at the end of the practice.

The Benefits of Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga provides healing for the body and the mind. It is a Mindfulness practice that is especially helpful in reducing stress and tiredness that results from the pressures of everyday life.

Restorative yoga helps to trigger the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) or the body’s ‘Relaxation Response’. The PNS is responsible for balancing the body and bringing its Stress response system back into equilibrium. Stimulating the Relaxation Response helps to lower heart rate and blood pressure; it helps to healthily stimulate the immune system and keep the endocrine system operating healthily.

About our Restorative Yoga Classes

Restorative Yoga is a gentle and slower form of yoga that promotes deep relaxation, whilst holding the poses for longer periods of time, with the help of props. Restorative Yoga is derived from the Iyengar yoga tradition. Sometimes pain or injury may occur if you strain too hard in a pose. Restorative yoga adapts key poses using props and modifications, allowing the student to stay in the pose without pain or strain.

These poses promote deep relaxation, lessen stress in the body and help to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (our relaxation response) and can help people recovering from injuries or illnesses.

The practice is intended to combat the physical and mental effects of everyday stress and helps ailments like headaches, backaches, anxiety, and insomnia through restful postures, pranayama (breath work) and sometimes guided meditation.

Classes are typically slow-paced with dimmed lights and the use of blocks, bolsters, eye masks, blankets, and more. This allows the body to let go.  Common benefits include increased flexibility, deep relaxation of the body and mind, increased healing, enhanced mood, and more.

These Restorative Yoga classes are effective for helping to reduce stress & anxiety, recovery from illness or injury, and taking you on a blissful journey to a state of deep relaxation & inner calm – physically, emotionally and mentally.

  • The primary focus of these classes is to facilitate healing through relaxation – allowing the body and mind to release tension and let go. Restorative Yoga focuses on relaxing the body in restful postures, providing an opportunity for the body to renew and heal
  • Classes include Restorative yoga postures that gently increase our body, mind and spiritual health, through a range of loosening, limbering, strengthening, and quietening postures based on the classical yoga asanas
  • Many postures are deeply supported with props, allowing you to hold the poses for longer – it’s a relaxing style of practice that leaves you feeling open and refreshed.
  • Some gentle breath meditation and a Yoga Nidra Meditation at the end of the class are also included

This course is ideal for complete beginners, as full instruction is provided, but those of you who wish to deepen your yoga practice, to try a less dynamic, more Mindful and gentle style of practice and expand your repertoire of relaxation techniques will also benefit. All age groups welcome.

General Information about Classes

Early booking is recommended for all classes as there is a maximum number of participants per class, ensuring maximum participation and personal attention.

Classes are 1 hour 15 minutes in duration, unless otherwise stated. Please bring along your own Yoga mats and blankets. Yoga mats are available for rental at €2 per session if needed. All other props will be provided at the class (blankets, bolsters, straps, cushions, blocks etc).
